Unsecret Santa (aka ‘Bring It’)

This isn’t about “why I haven’t been blogging, guys.” It’s about what I’m going to do to get back on this horse.

Post a request for something in the comments below. It has to be short to medium-sized. A table of 50 or less, a monster description, anything that you might have wanted to submit to the Secret Santicore but couldn’t because you only get to submit one thing.

I’ll post one every other day until I run out.

For every request posted up to the first one-hundred-fifty, I’ll donate $1 to a deserving charity to be determined sometime this month (I’ll take suggestions via email to Chris AT Rolang dawt calm).  Everything will be released under a Creative Commons noncommercial license.

I still have a half-finished zombie thing to post from before. I’ll get to that in the meantime. Oh and my Secret Santicore, which was awesome.

I’m always eager to exploit other people and steal their ideas. I request a table of weird city encounters, as many as you feel like doing.

I’d be interested in a Vornheim-style multi-column table of reasons why mega-dungeons were created or inhabited by new occupants. Thanks. ^__^

I’d like to see a d20 list of random necrotic diseases/curses and effects.

I would very much like a table of 20 weird obsessions engaged in by sorcerers.

I’d like a generic table of explanations for out of place wandering monsters. Potentially sorted by general region.

What about a list of weird fantasy locations?
The city built in the ruins of an ancient spaceship, an other things like that.

I’m only doing it for the charity, enslaving you to do my work has *almost* nothing to do with it 😉

A multi column dungeon dressings/rooms/accessories table, with columns like ‘natural cave’, ‘necromancy lab’, ‘mine’, ‘underground prisons’, ‘evil temple’ and whatever you feel like including. Oh why am I the 15th!??!

Six or more tragic background stories to be revealed when the PC’s have just victimized a hitherto faceless, nameless NPC (inadvertently or otherwise), which will force the PC’s to act either heartbroken and repentant or cruel and callous. (Or maybe just emotionally dead)

    Dear Satan Claws,

I’ve been trying to be a good DM. Sorry ’bout that hell mouth thing. For Xmas could I please has a list of things the bad guys are doing with human and/or demihuman prisoners … or why the bad guys built a prison? & who/what the warden is in each case?

Twelve (or more) drunken named NPCs found in the local inn or tavern.

    Kudos for doing this.

  23. Lex Icon on December 5, 2011 at 4:47 pm said:

A list of things the big bad corporation is doing to the supernaturals they’ve kidnapped. New World of Darkness spacefaring campaign, so any sort of supernatural you can think of could be included.

Alternatively, just a list of strange aliens to use in said campaign would be great too. Whatever’s easier.

And thanks for doing this, it’s double awesome. 🙂

    Wow. Great responses!

Some won’t take very long, others will. So these won’t necessarily be posted in order, but I will try to post them almost in the same order they came in.

I’m a greedy bastard, Santa, and I desire at least a d30 table of fantasy curses that may have been thought up by entities in a ‘traditional fantasy setting’ but are hopefully bizarre and interesting. I’m attempting a project for a group of players that is very unsatisfied with “death” in tabletop RPGs, and so, I’m seeking alternative temporary conditions where ideally the character is still under the control of the player.

I’d like a table of campaign starters. Perhaps one with 2 or 3 columns, either explaining the relationships/background of the pc’s and where the adventure begins, or one giving adventure/quest ideas.

Heads up: I hit a schedule snag this weekend, so it’s been a few days. I’m still pacing well and will get something up tomorrow. Name chart and motivations, iirc.

If we’re allowed to make more than one request, I find myself in need of a bunch of weird-ass temples for the city I’m building. Ten of them, say. But only if you run out of suggestions; I wouldn’t want to be prioritised over someone who hasn’t made a request yet.

I’m playing a Mage game, and it has this system where if you fuck up a spell or if non-mages see you casting it there’s a strange paradoxical backlash and reality warps around you in awkward and unsettling ways, like there’s a brief and terrifying rain of bees or you develop temporary coprolalia.

(yes I’m playing World of Darkness oh god don’t judge me)

so Twenty Consequences to Doing Spells Wrong, perhaps, ranging from mildly inconvenient to permanently disfiguring.

Love the blog especially the recent bring it posts and have been reading through the archive from the beginning and have gotten this far…

If it’s OK to ask for another, then I’d have a use for a table full of weird hermits.

I’ve printed out almost all of the tables so far and put them in my GM binder 🙂 If you’ll ever put all of these in a book, I’ll buy it.
